Your benefits

  • Remain flexible
whether in a gas or dust atmosphere, you can reliably operate our explosion-protected motors in both hazard zones.
  • Use in parallel
since we combine gas and dust protection in one drive, meaning you can decide independently which hazard is more significant.
  • Be safe
thanks to their approval in line with EU directive 2014/34/EC (ATEX), IECEx or HazLoc-NA® and local approvals, you can use the motors almost anywhere in the world.
  • Meet ecological design requirements
with the EDRN.. motors. These are designed, manufactured and constructed in line with the latest standards, laws, and regulations.
  • Worldwide network
that enables us to help you with questions relating to all aspects of your application and the fulfillment of requirements in the target country for your delivery.

As a system operator, you must comply with special guidelines for areas with explosive gas/air and dust/air mixtures. We naturally observe these guidelines when developing new or existing explosion-protected drive technology. Put your trust in our many years of experience and expertise!

Based on the approvals to ATEX or IECEx, there are country-specific approvals for Brazil (INMETRO), China (CCCEx), the Eurasian Customs Union (EAC Ex), Korea (KCs), and Ukraine (UA TR)

Australia/New Zealand

SEW image

Australia and New Zealand recognize the IECEx Certificate of Conformity (CoC) without additional certification or registration. The motors must be MEPS-approved (IE2 ≥ 0.75 kW) and registered.

Brazil

Black INMETRO logo

Brazilian legislation requires a Certificate of Conformity (CoC) from the National Institute of Metrology, Quality and Technology (INMETRO). For this reason, the IECEx CoC is not valid in Brazil. However, the test reports (ExTRs) are recognized and form part of the CoC, as long as the motors with INMETRO certification are listed on the IECEx website.

Requirements for potentially explosive atmospheres on the Brazilian market are specified in regulations no. 179 (May 2010) and No. 89 (February 2012).

China

Black CNCA-C23-01 logo

In China, explosion protection requirements are described in the GB 3836 and GB 12476 series of standards. These standards were harmonized with the older editions of the IEC 60079 and IEC 61241 series of standards. From October 1, 2020, motors must be certified to CNCA-C23-01:2019 and the manufacturing plants must be audited.
According to the Chinese efficiency regulations, the motors are to be marked with the Chinese Energy Label (CEL).

Eurasian Customs Union

Black EAC Ex logo

Gearmotors for the Eurasian Economic Union (Russia, Kazakhstan, Belarus; Armenia, and Kyrgyzstan) are certified according to the requirements of TR CU certificate/declaration. They are marked with the EAC logo (Eurasian Conformity).

Products designated for use in potentially explosive areas feature an additional marking.

Korea

Black ICS logo

The Republic of Korea, generally known as South Korea, requires equipment in potentially explosive atmospheres to be certified in line with the Occupational Safety and Health Act.

EDR.. are certified by the state-run KOSHA (Korea Occupational Safety and Health Agency). Certified products are marked with the KC logo (Korea Certification).

In accordance with the REELS directive (Regulation on Energy Efficiency Labeling and Standards), explosion-protected motors have had to meet energy efficiency class IE3 since October 1, 2018. Motors are marked with the KEL (Korea Energy Label).

Ukraine

Black UA TR logo

Motors for the Ukrainian market are certified according to the “Ukrainian Technical Regulations” (UA TR) and are marked accordingly.

Overview of the advantages of combining an explosion-protected motor with increased safety “eb” over AC asynchronous motors in protection type “d” (EN 60079-1; flameproof enclosure):

  • High efficiency
  • Shortest possible delivery times, high availability
  • Delivery from a single source, from one manufacturer offering both motor and inverter components, which are therefore optimized to each other
  • Simpler qualification for maintenance and service
  • Higher speeds, field weakening operation
  • Lighter motor
  • Certified for operation with frequency inverters
  • Suitable for pump and fan drives
  • After decades of successful application, the “Ex e + FI” combination has a high level of acceptance among customers and end users

Strict adherence to guidelines is particularly important in areas with potentially explosive gas/air and/or dust/air mixtures. We ensure this by drawing on our many years of experience and expertise, which is constantly being expanded with new and further developments.

  • Our 4-pole motors are also suited for operation with frequency inverters according to ATEX, IECEx and HazLoc-NA®
  • Category 2 and EPL b and c are certified by prototype testing
  • Motors are certified to HazLoc-NA® by CSA
  • In category 3, EPL c and division 2, brakemotors are also available
  • The suitability for operation with inverters is confirmed on the nameplate
  • A second nameplate provides all the information required for operation
